HWG presents our 2017 annual short story contest:

We’ll be accepting submissions from 09/06 to 11/17 for fiction and/or creative non-fiction short stories no longer than 5000 words.

The theme of this year's contest is Outside the Window – Tales of the World: submissions must adhere to the topic - related to traveling, exploring, and/or experiencing new and different cultures, and how traveling opens one’s mind to understand and appreciate the world around us.

All qualifying entries will receive feedback from our judge panel that includes industry professionals, and prizes will be given to 1st place and runner up. Eligible entries will be published in HWG Press next anthology.

The Houston Writers Guild is Proud to announce our annual independent writers conference, Indiepalooza!

Masquerade Gala

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2017

Join the Houston Writers Guild for our first annual Masquerade Gala.  The event will start at 7pm with a sit down plated dinner accompanied by light jazz.  Following a short message from the leadership, the event will flow into a night of dancing, giveaways, and culminate in a costume contest around 11 pm.  As an official 501c3 organization, your ticket price, your membership dues, and any donations you choose to give to your Guild are tax deductible.

Come have fun, dance, dress up in your finest or come in costume, and support your Guild. There will be a cash bar for those who would like to partake.

 

Houston Writers Guild Summer Series

The Houston Writers Guild, in collaboration with the Katherine Tyra Public Library, is hosting a free hands-on craft-focused series of workshops.  Each Monday starting in June through to the end of August, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, at 16719 Clay Rd, various craft topics will be presented and time will be allotted for writing.  No RSVP needed. The Annual April Guild Conference is held for three days every Spring. This is HWG’s cornerstone event, bringing together literary professionals in a themed conference. In addition, the Guild hosts the Indiepalooza Conference each Fall.

For, by and about Houston Writers Guild Members, the HWG Voices Blog features member-written topical series posts. Find instructions for submitting your original ideas, tips and experiences on the member post submission guidelines page. Submit as many posts as you like throughout the topic campaign -- there is never a fee for submission. Provides opportunity to promote your book or brand in an accompanying bio.  HWG Voices also includes informative and motivating guest posts, inspirations from the HWG Leadership Team, author interviews, publisher and agent insights, and event reviews.  There is an on-going call for submissions on various topics.  See Submission Guidelines for more information.
